Kanehsatake Ratihonstanonhstats Environment invite all Kanesatake membership of all ages to participate in the first engagement session for the Environmental Indicators Project and the Ottawa River Watershed Study.

What is the Environmental Indicators Project?
This project aims specifically at
• working with the community and target groups to identify locations within the community and closely surrounding areas which are important biodiverse hotspots or are lacking biodiversity
• Deciding as a community which environmental indicators are important for us to use in furthering and deepening our understanding of the environment which surrounds us (water, air, soil, forests, industry, tourism, future land use)
What is the Ottawa River Watershed study?
• This project aims specifically at seeking input from Indigenous people, communities and organizations on how to best manage, protect, and conserve the Watershed in a co-management effort.
Why it is important that you participate:
Our beautiful Land is the reason for our existence. Every member of Kanesatake has some insight of how they would like to see these lands managed. Scientific monitoring alongside our traditional knowledge gives us a unique platform in creating this vision together.
As times have changed, and governments and industry listen to science rather than our belief systems, it is our duty to do what we can to be on top of this issue rather than remain silent, watching the world go by, feeling like we can’t do anything about it.
